Some collaborations can fizzle or make no sense. Then you find a video game and beer collaboration that makes perfect sense. Playstation decided to find the perfect beer to go with their action-adventure survival video game called Days Gone and they found it with Ballast Point, who created “Deacon’s Red Ale” to pair with Days Gone.

This three city tour kicked off at the Ballast Point Long Beach location on Tuesday night. Whether you were a gamer, a beer drinker or both, this was one fun night. Guests began the night by sampling the wonderful “Deacon’s Red Ale” and in between enjoying a perfect sunset, gamers spent the rest of the night being the first to try out Days Gone. The tour continues with a stop at Ballast Point in San Diego on April 2nd and Ballast Point Chicago on April 16th, leading up to the official game launch on April 26th.

If you want to try and imagine the idea behind Days Gone, think of somehow combining the best of “The Walking Dead” and “Sons of Anarchy”. As you make your way through the game you are going to find: hostile drifters, marauders and militia, Deacon must face a wilderness overrun by dangerous and evolving Freakers. As with any living creature, Freakers eat, drink, hibernate and build nests, behaviors that Deacon must learn and adapt to.

The breathtaking and realistic setting was inspired by the Bend, Oregon location Sony-Bend PlayStation studio. You are going to be taken through forests, small towns and mountains to cliffs and river basins while ancient lava flows scar and define the hazardous environments. A large appeal of the game would have to simply be the beautiful and diverse backdrop of regions to explore throughout the game.

If you are looking for a sneak peek at one of the most innovative games that has been released in years make sure to mark your calendar to attend one of the last two sampling tours. While Days Gone gives you an excuse to visit Ballast Point on one of those two days, the many amazing beers that they produce including “Deacon’s Red Ale” are a great reason to visit a Ballast Point location any day of the week.
